Start with the problem you want to solve
Is your main aim phone connectivity, a different display or changing an existing setup? Tell us what the current system does and what is missing. If it already has CarPlay or Android Auto, say whether that works through a cable or wirelessly.
Mention faults separately from the upgrade request. A connection that has stopped working and a car that has never supported the feature need different checks.
Keeping the display or replacing it
An interface can add phone connectivity to some original screens. This is worth asking about if you like the existing display and mainly want extra functions. It needs to suit the original system; a similar-looking dashboard is not enough to establish compatibility.
A replacement screen changes the display itself. It may be the option you want to discuss if the screen is part of the change you have in mind. There are also selected systems where an existing feature can be activated. Send your equipment details so we can check which options apply.
Your phone and connection preference
CarPlay is for iPhone; Android Auto is for compatible Android phones. Both also need a compatible vehicle system or aftermarket unit. Tell us which phone you use, especially if different drivers use different types.
Wired and wireless support are separate details to check. A USB connection does not establish wireless compatibility. If wireless use is important, ask for it specifically when discussing the unit and your phone.
List the original features you want to keep
Think about the controls you use on an ordinary journey: steering-wheel buttons, the dashboard controller, your reversing camera and the original audio system. Include any factory audio package or equipment fitted later.
Ask how those features will work with the proposed upgrade. A picture of the new screen does not tell you how the rest of the car will behave. Agree the functions that matter to you before ordering.
A digital dashboard is a separate upgrade
A digital dashboard replaces the instrument display behind the steering wheel. A screen upgrade usually concerns the centre display. When browsing products, check which area of the dashboard the listing describes.
If you are considering both, include photos of both displays and tell us what you want each one to do. Navigation, media and display layouts vary by unit; a feature shown on one product is not a promise for every installation.
Send these details before buying a kit
Photograph the dashboard while parked, with the screen switched on. Keep any product link you have found so we can review the exact listing.
- Make, model, year and any known system name.
- The screen, dashboard controls and steering-wheel buttons.
- Your phone model and whether wireless connection matters.
- Existing cameras, sound systems and functions you want to retain.
